PG: Several Criminal Prosecutions Launched in Re-education Centre Cases

3. mája 2024 20:29
Bratislava, May 3 (TASR) - Criminal prosecutions have been launched in four cases concerning re-education centres over suspicions of sexual violence, sexual abuse and cruelty to a ward, Prosecutor-General's Office spokesperson Zuzana Drobova announced on Friday. Also under investigation are allegations of human trafficking, forced labour and property-related crimes. "Suspicions of crimes stemming from the assessment by the Prosecutor-General's Office of the state of lawfulness seen in the re-education centres in 2023 have been forwarded to relevant district prosecution services," added Drobova. In 2023, the Prosecutor-General's Office undertook a series of inspections of the re-education centres, after which it came to the conclusion that these facilities don't meet their purpose and violate the rights of children. mf/mcs
