OTS: SPP further strengthens the security of gas supplies for Slovakia

Bratislava June 26, 2024 (TASR/OTS) - SPP is not threatened by a possible execution by a third party that would win a court case with a company of a third country in Europe and would like to claim compensation at the expense of SPP. According to available information, the OMV company fears this scenario.

The National Council of the Slovak Republic approved an amendment to the government's draft law, which amends and supplements the relevant law on regulation in network industries. According to the approved regulation, it will not be possible to seize the gas in the transition or distribution network, nor the claims of a third party from a particularly significant contract for the supply of natural gas, by which this entity supplies natural gas to a supplier of last resort in an estimated annual quantity that exceeds 50% of the total consumption of natural gas in the Slovak Republic in a given calendar year. This measure significantly increases the security of gas supplies for SPP customers.

SPP, the leader of the energy market in Slovakia, continues to guarantee the highest level of gas supply security for its customers. Even in the event of any emergency situation, it will supply gas to its customers from households to large industrial customers without any restrictions. Gas supplies for SPP from the main supplier are carried out in accordance with the contract. The company has also secured a diversified portfolio of five other large international gas suppliers such as BP, Exxon Mobil, Shell, RWE or ENI for two years now, apart from the Russian source. After a warm winter, the underground storages in Slovakia are now approximately 75% full.
