(Corrects the name of the corruption case from 'Purgatory' to 'Toll Collector'. Both cases deal with corruption under the previous government, but 'Purgatory' targets corruption in the law enforcement and 'Toll Collector' corruption in the Finance Ministry and Financial Administration. The corrected story follows.)
Bratislava, November 12 (TASR) - Opposition MP, Voice-SD leader and former premier (2018-20) Peter Pellegrini was summoned by the Police Corps Presidium in Bratislava to deliver his testimony in the corruption-related Toll Collector case on Friday.
"I was summoned by Ms. investigator as a witness, I answered all of her questions and I'm leaving as a witness. There are no charges against me," Pellegrini underlined after his interrogation.
Pellegrini refused to comment on any details, as the case is still in pre-trial phase.
According to cooperating defendants, Pellegrini allegedly asked for a bribe of €150,000, back as Finance Ministry state secretary in 2014, for securing political support for a digital cash register project worth €5.5 million. The money were supposedly routed through a middleman, entrepreneur Miroslav V. [indicted in Toll Collector III case, name abbreviated due to legal reasons], who accepted the money stashed in a box of Cristal Champagne from entrepreneur Michal S.
Pellegrini denies being guilty.
