Economy Minister Sulik: We'll Use Gas Even Beyond 2050

Bratislava, January 2 (TASR) - EU's pressure to limit the burning of fossil fuels is increasing and the European Union expects to end the use of coal, oil and gas by 2050, however, Economy Minister Richard Sulik (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS) doesn't see the efforts of some European institutions and environmentalists to speed up this process as real and expects us to use natural gas, albeit to a limited extent, even after this deadline. "We'll see when gas is eliminated, we'll see what will be its replacement. It's difficult to make your house warm with photovoltaics. We'll see what specific plans the EU will present and even if it does, it will concern a quite distant future," said Sulik. He considers the very question of the possible termination of support or even a ban on the sale of gas equipment to be "dissemination of an alarming message". According to the minister, long-term plans for the use of natural gas are also confirmed by the recently completed Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. Although gas installations usually don't have a service life of 30 years, the gas pipes at the bottom of the Baltic Sea exceed this service life. am
