Bratislava, February 27 (TASR) - Slovak media and publishing houses have issued a statement in support of the Ukrainian and Russian journalists and warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin attempts to silence the journalists who write the truth about his war crimes in Ukraine.
The statement warns that Putin's censors have launched an attack on the remaining free media in Russia.
"The Russian police have been arresting journalists who want as many people as possible to learn about protests in Russian cities against the Putin's war. The Russian censorship body intends to ban the free media and journalists from using words such as 'invasion', 'attack', 'bombardment' or 'war'. It wants them to talk about 'peace mission' instead and publish information only from governmental sources," reads the text.
The Slovak media underlined that the truth cannot be silenced either in Russia nor Ukraine. "We stand by all our colleagues defending the remaining vestiges of the freedom of speech in Russia," it says.
