SaS: Constitutional Court Confirms This Gov't Harms Slovakia

Bratislava, December 13 (TASR) - The Tuesday's decision by the Constitutional Court that has found unconstitutional parts of the so-called family package of measures confirms, in black and white, that this Government is really harmful for Slovakia, the SaS party's press department told TASR on Tuesday.
The Constitutional Court ruled that the package in question doesn't constitute a one-time targeted aid, but rather a systemic change that falls short in the constitutional requirement of efficiency in the spending of financial resources. "Furthermore, conditions needed for a fast-track procedure weren't met, even though it was due to the fast-track procedure that neither the Budgetary Responsibility Council nor entities directly involved have been given any chance to make comments," reads the party's press statement.
"We've been warning of this since the beginning and proposing alternatives. But the coalition was hell-bent on pushing the bill through in a fast-track procedure. At the end of the day, it's the municipalities and regions that will suffer most over this bill, as many are to operate throughout 2023 on a provisional budget, for instance, the cities of Bratislava and Kosice," stated MP Alojz Baranik (SaS). Seeing as municipalities and regions provide 70 percent of services for citizens, money will need to be found anyway and these can come only via hikes in fees and local taxes.
Baranik added that the Government disrespects experts and agreements, and advocates unorthodox ideas that fly in the face of the Constitution.
