Bratislava, May 17 (TASR) - At its session on Wednesday, the government approved Andrej Stec's nomination as Slovakia's candidate for the post of judge of the General Court of the European Union and tasked the foreign affairs minister with submitting his nomination to the Secretary-General of the Council of the EU.
Stec has been serving as a legal advisor at the General Court of the EU since 2004. In addition, he's been engaged in lecturing and publishing activities. Judicial Council member Petra Pribelska proposed him as a candidate for the post of a General Court judge. The Judicial Council last November okayed his candidacy unanimously, with all 17 members present voting in favour.
The current mandate of 26 national judges of the General Court of the EU expired on August 31, 2022. Slovakia was represented by Juraj Schwarcz for a second term, while Daniel Svaby served between 2004-2009.
The General Court of the EU is part of the Court of Justice of the EU. The judges' terms in office last six years. Like the Court of Justice of the EU, the General Court of the EU is based in Luxembourg.
