Bratislava, May 25 (TASR) - Checks on Slovakia's borders with Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and at international airports, which have been resumed on a temporary basis until June 8, are not related solely to the Globsec conference, but also to other events, caretaker Premier Ludovit Odor said during the regular Question Time in Parliament on Thursday, when answering a question by MP Romana Tabak (Independent).
According to Odor, the aim of the checks is to monitor the situation and to have forces ready to intervene if necessary. "It's an interplay of several circumstances," said the premier. He referred to his conversation with Police Corps president Stefan Hamran, who is particularly concerned about the meeting of the Hells Angels motorcycle club....Some other events will take place as well, such as triatlone races.
Odor said the checks won't be everywhere. "In fact, it may happen that the checks won't be anywhere and that there will only be police officers ready to intervene if necessary," he explained, adding that the operative staff will decide on the use of forces based on up-to-date information. Odor noted that the decision on the resumption of border checks was made by the previous government. The current government only decided about allocation of soldiers to help the police.
