Bratislava, June 14 (TASR) - In connection with the Russian aggression in Ukraine, Slovakia must stand on the right side of history and do its best to ensure that disinformation does not threaten the unity of the country or that of the European Union, Mikulas Dzurinda and Laszlo Solymos of the extra-parliamentary Blues, Most-Hid party told a news conference on Wednesday.
Solymos noted that Russia's goal is to break the unity of Slovakia and the EU. "Many politicians help it in this, they have lost even the last inhibitions and respect for the truth," he said. According to him, there's need to be louder and fight disinformation so that is doesn't threaten this unity. "I want to believe that one day people will manage to change the regime in Russia, and that the course we set in 1998 won't change in Slovakia following the September general election and that we'll remain part of the free democratic world," he said.
The party pointed to the fact that the war in Ukraine directly threatens Slovakia's security and that Russian President Vladimir Putin has been waging a hybrid war against us for a long time. Therefore, it is important that Slovak citizens know what is actually happening and what Putin's actual intentions are.
Therefore, the Blues, Most-Hid party invited opposition Russian politician Vladimir Milov for a news conference. Milov, who has been expelled from Russia for his opinions, warned that Putin is very active in spreading disinformation, pointing to his speeches broadcast by Russian media.
Dzurinda stressed that standing on Ukraine's side doesn't automatically mean hatred against Russia. "It's also important to be aware that there are people living in Russia who want democracy, not totalitarianism," stated Dzurinda.
