Brussels, June 18 (TASR-corespondent) - The House of Slovakia, set up by the General Consulate of the Slovak Republic in Brussels, aims to promote cultural and artistic activities of Slovaks living in Belgium and Luxembourg, and to be a link to the Slovak cultural scene, Consul General Andrej Michalec has said in an interview for TASR.
The consulate aims to organise various events in cooperation with representatives of Slovakia, Slovak regions, companies and compatriot associations under the brand of the House of Slovakia.
The first event was presentation of a book "City Foxes" (Mestske lisky) by Katarina Duricova, who is from Samorin (Trnava region) and currently lives in Brussels. In early June, there was an exhibition "Country of the Soul" by Slovak artist Denisa Olexa Bogdalika working in Brussels.
A street-art gallery 40x60 Brussels by Lenka Lukacovicova a Martina Rotlingova was held on Sunday, June 11, in front of the residence of the consulate.
The consulate plans to organise events and exhibitions, and introduce new artists on a regular monthly basis. The consulate will host seven exhibitions focused on visual artists in some way connected to Brussels at the end of the year.
"We will be happy to hear from interesting, inspiring, and creative Slovaks, who want to show who they are and what they do. We know that there are many talented artists, scientists and people working in various companies. We will be happy to present them to inspire fellow Slovaks," stated Michalec.
The consulate tries to make the program of the House of Slovakia as diverse as possible and thanks to partners it can organise various events focusing on hobby activities like sports, creative workshops or guided tours of Brussels. The consulate cooperates in this matter with the Office for Slovaks Living Abroad.
