Bratislava, August 1 (TASR) - Slovak diplomat Marcel Pesko will be the new special representative of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) chairman for Ukraine, Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry posted on a social network on Tuesday. "I'm pleased that a Slovak diplomat, who has extensive experience in the field of multilateral diplomacy and conflict resolution, was entrusted with this task," said Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Wlachovsky, calling Pesko's appointment a recognition of the high credit and professionalism of Slovak diplomats and an appreciation of Slovakia's all-round support for Ukraine and its principled stance towards Russian aggression. In his new post, Pesko will mainly be in charge of developing cooperation between the OSCE, Ukraine and international organisations operating in the country. The priority is to help Ukraine cope with the consequences of the Russian war and to support reforms with the aim of its future membership in the EU and NATO. Pesko will also coordinate projects in areas such as mine clearance, the fight against illegal human trafficking, the effects of war on the environment, reform of the judiciary, democratic control of the army, freedom of the media, social and psychological assistance to people affected by war and strengthening resistance to cyber attacks, said the ministry. am/mcs
