Bratislava, August 8 (TASR) - In an open to caretaker Premier Ludovit Odor, head of the Union of Pensioners in Slovakia (JDS) Michal Kotian pointed to increasing generational division in society in the run up to the upcoming snap general election, informing the premier that he expects him to express respect for the importance of the voices of old people, just as he's called for the participation of young voters.
"More and more we are getting the feeling that we, the elderly, no longer have any say in the direction of our country after the election and that the votes of young people and Slovaks from abroad will be the most important thing. It is also your rhetoric, prime minister, that is contributing to this. It deepens further the division of Slovak society, instability and tension," warned Kotian.
The union head therefore urged Odor to declare, along with JDS, that he gives equal weight to the votes of the elderly as he does to those of young voters and that he cares about their participation in the election. "I would also like to sincerely ask you to propose solutions for how the current situation described above could be resolved before the snap election in favour of intergenerational cohesion in Slovakia," added Kotian.
