Bratislava, September 10 (TASR) - Slovakia will receive €5.5 million from the European Peace Facility (EPF) for the so-called winter aid package to Ukraine. The refunding of the material supplied between February and May, when Slovakia donated MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine, should be discussed soon as well, Defence Ministry spokesperson Maria Precner has told TASR.
"The total value of the military supplies provided to Ukraine was some €673 million," said Precner. The amount of €82 million has been refunded from the EPF to Slovakia so far. In addition to the cost refunding from the EPF, the Defence Ministry perceives intensive cooperation with allies and partners to strengthen national capabilities as an appreciation of Slovakia's aid to the invaded Ukraine.
The ministry gave an example of the 15 Leopard 2 tanks that Slovakia received from Germany as a replacement for the Soviet-made infantry combat vehicles it donated to Ukraine. Germany also provided Slovakia with two sets of Mantis missile defence systems worth €225 million free of charge. Italy is providing Slovakia with the SAMP/T missile defence system.
The ministry also mentioned a €200 million financial gift that the USA provided to Slovakia under the Foreign Military Financing programme as reward for its solidarity with Ukraine. "The US Government also offered 12 new AH-1Z Viper helicopters to Slovakia under very advantageous terms," said the spokesperson.
