Bratislava, October 27 (TASR) - I wish that even contemporary politicians would be able to unite on fundamental issues and overcome personal and political egos, just as the founders of the first Czechoslovak Republic did, Parliamentary Chair Peter Pellegrini (Voice-SD) said on Friday, who together with Czech ambassador to Slovakia Rudolf Jindrak marked the 105th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia, which falls on Saturday, October 28.
At the monument to General Milan Rastislav Stefanik in Bratislava, Pellegrini emphasised that the creation of the first Czechoslovakia also laid the foundation for the creation of two independent republics, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, which happened decades later. According to him, this anniversary can be seen not only as a historical moment, but can also give us lessons for the current situation. "Perhaps, even for today's situation, it should be highlighted that three personalities Tomas Garrigue Masaryk, Edvard Benes and Milan Rastislav Stefanik, despite the fact that they came from completely different political spectra and may have had a different opinion on many things, managed to overcome their political and personal egos, they were able to unite for the strong idea of the formation of Czechoslovakia," he pointed out.
The parliamentary head wishes that such an approach can be found in today's world, European and especially domestic politics.
The ambassador of the Czech Republic to Slovakia praised the fact that Slovaks also profess the joint legacy of October 28, 1918. "I'll do everything to ensure that Czechoslovak relations, even after the elections in Slovakia, are the best and most intensive for the benefit of the citizens," added Jindrak.
