Simecka Considers Personnel Changes in Police Corps to Be Demonstration of Power

Bratislava, October 27 (TASR) - I consider the "earthquake" in the Police Corps to be a demonstration of power, Progressive Slovakia (PS) head and parliamentary vice-chair Michal Simecka said on Friday, adding that new Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok (Voice-SD), is acting on the orders of Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD). "The earthquake in the Police Corps won't really bring better security and protection of people in Slovakia, nor better investigation of all corruption cases. The only thing it will bring is a demonstration of power and better sleep for those who should face justice," emphasised Simecka. The PS leader also mentioned the ongoing degradation of political culture in Slovakia. "To dismiss the police chief three days before his service ends at his own request, to do it without a personal meeting and to transfer him overnight to the other end of the country, is pitiable, and mature politicians should never act like this," he added. Interior Minister decided that the posts of Police Corps vice-presidents will be scrapped as of November 1 and the two current vice-presidents will be moved to other posts. At the same time, a new post of police vice-president for migration, operative police work and service management is to be created. The minister also decided to suspend six police officers in line with the law on the state service of police officers, which states that police officers must be temporarily taken off duty if they are suspected of committing a crime. Police Corps president Stefan Hamran was dismissed from the post on Thursday (October 26). am/mcs
