Bratislava, November 29 (TASR) - Representatives of the Slovak Hauliers Union (UNAS) held talks with the Transport Ministry on Wednesday.
Road carriers demand the immediate termination of the EU-Ukraine agreement on the carriage of freight by road. According to them, it disrupted the trade and transport ratio between Slovakia and Ukraine to the disadvantage of Slovak hauliers.
"We respect the right of hauliers to strike. We've agreed that if they go on strike, they will strike in such a way as not to disturb the lives of the residents of eastern Slovakia too much," said the Transport Ministry.
UNAS also requests the introduction of the obligation of transport permits for Ukrainian carriers or the introduction of a register of Ukrainian vehicles modelled after the Czech Republic, which should enable better enforcement of fines and information about the vehicle operator.
