Slovak Singer Barbara Hascakova Dies in Florida Aged 43

Florida/Kosice, December 3 (TASR) - Slovak singer Barbara Hascakova died on November 22 in Florida, USA, at the age of 43, the late artist's brother, Andrej Hascak, told TASR on Sunday, adding that doctors at Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, where she lived, determined the cause of death to be a sudden stroke.
"The last farewell to Barbara took place on Tuesday, November 28, at the local Roman Catholic parish in the presence of the immediate family and a close circle of friends. Her remains will be transferred in an urn to Slovakia in the coming weeks, she will be buried in our native Kosice," stated Hascak.
Born in December 1979 in Kosice, Barbara Hascakova became a popular music star in the 1990s. She first sang in a band called Maduar, later in a duo named MC Erik & Barbara, and later became a solo singer. In 1998, she won the Slavik (Nightingale) music award and a year later the Grand Prix in Poland. She lived in the USA from 2000. She released several albums in Slovakia, and added two more in the USA.
