Brussels, December 7 (TASR) - It is important for Slovakia that the EU's proposed Net-Zero Industry Act includes nuclear technology among strategic low-emission sources, said Economy Ministry State Secretary Kamil Sasko (Voice-SD) in Brussels on Thursday following a meeting of the EU Competitiveness Council.
Member countries adopted a joint stance on the Net-Zero Industry Act, which was published by the European Commission in March of this year. The main objective of this proposal is to accelerate the industrial deployment of critical technologies needed to support the transition to climate neutrality, using the power of the single market to make Europe more economically resilient and competitive.
Sasko confirmed that member countries have approved a joint stance on the law on low-emission technologies, which is aimed at supporting the EU's ambition to become carbon neutral by 2050.
"At the same time, in this way, Europe's dependence on imports of such technologies from third countries has been significantly reduced, which means that the strategic autonomy of Europe as such and the domestic production of member countries have been strengthened," said the state secretary.
Sasko emphasised that he considers it to be a success of the Slovak Economy Ministry and Slovak diplomats in Brussels that nuclear technology is included among strategic low-emission sources.
"It's important that nuclear technology and all these strategic technologies aren't based on a principle of discrimination. This means, and we as Slovakia insisted on this, that they have access to all funding sources, including EU funds," stated Sasko.
