SaS Calls on Premier and House Chair Not to Question Constitutional Institutions

Bratislava, February 21 (TASR) - The opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party has called on Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) and Parliamentary Chair Peter Pellegrini (Voice-SD) not to question constitutional institutions in Slovakia.
SaS views it as unacceptable for them to participate in such questioning of constitutional pillars. The party mainly criticises them for statements that they've made in connection with the Constitutional Court and an amendment to the Penal Code.
SaS leader Richard Sulik rejects the premier's statements about communications between President Zuzana Caputova and the Constitutional Court and about some kind of conspiracy at the Constitutional Court. "The judges there are mostly those who were elected by parliament at the time when Smer-SD ruled alone. With his attacks on the opposition, the president and even democratic institutions, Robert Fico is confirming his fear that the amendment to the Penal Code might not take effect and that he might fail to protect his friends from going to jail," he said.
The party called on Pellegrini as a presidential candidate to stand up for key democratic institutions. SaS also reiterated its demand for the amendment to be published in the Collection of Laws as soon as possible.
