Bratislava, March 7 (TASR) - The Czech government's decision on Wednesday to cancel an upcoming joint session with the Slovak government won't influence Slovakia's foreign policy, Slovak Premier Robert Fico said on the same day, adding that his cabinet has acknowledged that the Czech government has decided to jeopardise deep Slovak-Czech relations.
"The Slovak government will never put deep Slovak-Czech relations in any danger. We've noted that the Czech government has decided to jeopardise them only because it's interested in supporting the war in Ukraine, while the Slovak government is openly talking about peace," Fico said.
The premier at the same time declared that the Czech government is welcome in Slovakia at any time. He noted that his cabinet won't burden mutual political relations with different world views that have nothing to do with Slovak-Czech coexistence. Fico called relations between Czechs and Slovaks unique and historically well-established. "They are loans of mutual trust. They're full of friendship, kinship and understanding," he remarked.
Czech Premier Petr Fiala reported on Wednesday that his government opted to postpone intergovernmental consultations with the Slovak government, cancelling a joint government meeting that was scheduled to take place in late April and early May. One of the reasons behind the move is last week's meeting between Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar (Smer-SD) and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
