Bratislava, May 3 (TASR) - Slovakia will actively participate in the conference on peace in Ukraine, which is due to take place in Switzerland between June 15-16, Foreign and European Affairs Ministry's communication department told TASR on Friday, adding that Slovakia should be represented by Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD).
Foreign Ministry State Secretary Marek Estok pointed out that despite the enormous efforts in the military sphere, including the Ukrainians themselves on the battlefield and the massive supply of weapons to Ukraine, the conflict is still continuing. "That's why Slovakia is firmly committed to a peaceful solution - to achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting peace based on the fundamental principles of the Charter of the United Nations," he stressed, adding that Ukraine needs the continued support and assistance of the international community. He sees the conference as an opportunity to set the parameters of a process leading to peace.
Swiss Ambassador to Slovakia Peter Nelson and Ukrainian Ambassador to Slovakia Myroslav Kastran handed over to Estok an invitation for the premier to the peace conference on Thursday, May 2.
The Ukraine peace conference will be held in the Swiss resort of Burgenstock. Top government officials from dozens of countries are expected to attend. They are scheduled to discuss the plan drawn up in recent months by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis.
