Sutaj Estok: Constitutional Court Decision Takes Wind Out of Opposition's Sails

Bratislava, July 3 (TASR) - The decision of the Constitutional Court takes the wind out of the sails for the current opposition, seeing as the verdict confirmed that neither the manner in which the Penal Code was passed [in a fast-track procedure - ed.note] nor the scrapping of the Special Prosecutor's Office were unconstitutional, coalition Voice-SD chair Matus Sutaj Estok stated on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, the Constitutional Court ruled that the majority of the Penal Code provisions are in accord with the Slovak Constitution, but not all of them.
"The decision of the Constitutional Court takes the wind out of the sails for representatives of the current opposition and finds them guilty of misleading the public and artificially feeding protests, the only purpose of which was to support [presidential candidate] Ivan Korcok," underlined Sutaj Estok.
According to Sutaj Estok, it's high time for the opposition to start respecting the result of 2023 parliamentary election, the mandate of the government and its policies, which stem from the public will shown by voters in the free and democratic election. Sutaj Estok declared his readiness to hear constructive criticism from the ranks of the opposition, however.
