SHMU Increases Storm Alert in Central Slovakia from Second to Third Degree

Bratislava, July 17 (TASR) - The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) has increased its storm alert level for the districts of Banska Bystrica, Zvolen, Detva and Banska Stiavnica (all of them Banska Bystrica region) for Wednesday from the second to the third degree. SHMU on its website also warns of downpours with an intensity of 60 millimetres in 30 minutes, along with gusts of wind reaching speeds of 125 kilometres per hour. Hail with a diameter of approximately 5 centimetres may appear in these districts as well. A second-degree flood alert also applies to these districts. A first-degree flood alert is in place for the districts of Zilina-Rajcanka, Turcianske Teplice, Ruzomberok, Liptovsky Mikulas (all of them Zilina region) and Brezno (Banska Bystrica region). Lower-degree storm alerts have also been issued, mainly for districts in Banska Bystrica, Zilina, Kosice and Presov regions. ko/df
