Bratislava, July 25 (TASR) - The European Commission's latest report on the state of the rule of law in Slovakia isn't encouraging for Slovakia and its people, the opposition Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) has opined, adding that it's a report card for the government of Robert Fico (Smer-SD).
In this vein, it criticised "the abuse of the fast-track proceeding for important bills", announcing that it wants to push for a clear definition of the conditions under which the abbreviated legislative procedure can be used in the Constitution.
The European Commission issued a total of recommendations for Slovakia in its latest annual report on the rule of law in the EU-member states. The recommendations for Slovakia concern, among other matters, the independence of the members of the Judicial Council, the powers of the prosecutor-general and the submission of legislative proposals to regulate lobbying. The EC also recommended Slovakia to ensure effective and independent investigation and prosecution of corruption cases.
