Bratislava, July 29 (TASR) - The calls of Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) MP and former justice minister Maria Kolikova concerning the death of former police cief Milan Lucansky are about her efforts to absolve herself of guilt, the Justice Ministry has said in response to her call on the government to apologise to members of the Prison and Judicial Guard Corps (ZVJS) for spreading lies about the death of Lucansky. The ministry noted that it respects the conclusions of the Prosecutor-General's Office, which recently reported that it didn't find any unlawful intentional or negligent conduct on the part of ZVJS members in the case of Lucansky's death in custody in 2020. However, given that Lucansky's son has announced that new facts have come to light in the case, the ministry wants to wait for the son's course of action. "Nevertheless, it remains beyond any doubt that this death was unnecessary and general Lucansky could have lived on if he had not become a target of political revenge, human rights violations, illegal detentions and deaths that Maria Kolikova symbolised and symbolises," the ministry added. Kolikova on Monday called on the government to apologise to employees of the ZVJS for the alleged lies it spread about Lucansky's death. According to her, coalition representatives misused the death to spread conspiracy theories and lies, which were evidently ways for them to to gain power. "They lied to people about what took place in the cell and what ZVJS members caused. They spread lies about torturing to death and murder," she said. The bereaved family told TASR in its response that the prosecutor in the case refused to take into account statements made by the former head of the National Crime Agency's (NAKA) field operations department, who hasn't been allowed to testify to date. In addition, the family wanted another authorised expert to be included in the investigation, as one expert in its view changed his opinion on the origin of injuries, and another expert was not present during the inspection of the body even though she signed the report. zel/mcs
