Bratislava, August 28 (TASR) - Slovakia should continue to be supplied with natural gas coming via Ukraine, despite the statements about not extending the gas transit contract with Russia's Gazprom made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Economy Minister Denisa Sakova (Voice-SD) said following the cabinet session on Wednesday, adding that it could be Azerbaijani gas. "As the Ukrainian premier said during the Slovak-Ukrainian negotiations, Ukraine is interested in gas transit to continue, so that it uses its transit pipes and storage tanks and becomes the so-called eastern energy hub. Therefore, we assume that gas will flow to Slovakia via Ukraine. Naturally, we hope it will be Azerbaijani gas," said Sakova. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told a news conference on Tuesday (August 27) that Kiev won't extend its agreement with Gazprom to transit Russian gas via Ukraine after it expires at the end of the year. He added that after the contract expires, Ukraine will make a decision about the transit of Russian gas via its territory to Europe jointly with the EU. ko/mcs
