President: Autumn Could Show How Stable Governing Coalition Is

(STVR, 'O 5 minut 12', September 8) The autumn and the next parliamentary session could show the stability of the ruling coalition in terms of whether it has the majority to pass laws, President Peter Pellegrini said on STVR's discussion programme 'O 5 minut 12' (Five Minutes to Twelve) on Sunday. Pellegrini pointed out that so far all the laws of the ruling coalition have passed in Parliament. "Perhaps the litmus test will be this autumn, the session that starts next week, when we'll see how solid the ruling coalition is or is not, whether it has majority to pass laws. If someone is bringing bills to Parliament in violation of the coalition agreement, the coalition has to deal with it," he noted. "I'm very sorry that personal ambitions often cause such enormous tensions," the president said in response to the debate on the post of House chair. "That the appetite for a particular post is put above the stability of the country, that personal ambition to have a certain chair is elevated above the need to address real problems, or that it can even threaten the stability of the governing coalition. This is unthinkable for me," said the president. The head of state also said that he's set to receive chairs of the coalition parties next week and he'll subsequently meet with leaders of the opposition parliamentary parties. am
