Bratislava, September 13 (TASR) - Heavy precipitation is forecast to continue over the weekend (September 14-15) mostly in the Zahorie region and in the Myjava area, with its intensity expected to ebb gradually starting as of Sunday, meterologist Nikoleta Hruskova reported at a press briefing on Friday.
"(Over the weekend) we expect the precipitation to reach between 40-80 milimetres," she stated.
Currently it is raining almost across the whole of Slovakia, with the exception of the Zemplin area and the Presov region.
First- and second-degree storm alerts are in place for the regions of Bratislava, Trencin, Nitra, Trnava, Zilina and Banska Bystrica.
In addition, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Office (SHMU) also issued a warning of strong winds for south-western Slovakia, with potential danger of landslides and the uprooting of trees or breaking of branches that might cause power blackouts.
