Bratislava, September 18 (TASR) - At its session on Wednesday, the Judicial Council elected Ondrej Laciak, Radoslav Prochazka and Daniela Jezova as candidates for the post of judge of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). Their candidacies must still be approved by the government, however. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is set to elect a new ECtHR judge for Slovakia from a list of three candidates submitted by the government. Laciak was proposed for the post by the Slovak Bar Association (SAK), the Slovak Judges Association and the Slovak Notary Chamber. He has been an ad hoc judge at the ECtHR since 2016, while he also holds the post of chairman of the Penal Law Committee in the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe. Prochazka previously served as Slovakia's representative before EU courts. He was also nominated for the post by the SAK and the Slovak Judges Association. While both candidates ran for the post already in the past, Jezova is a new candidate. She was nominated by Judicial Council head Marcela Kosova. She currently works as a lawyer with experience in dealing with international legal issues and EU issues. The mandate of the current Slovak judge at the ECtHR, Alena Polackova, will expire on December 28, 2024. ko/mcs
