Ziar nad Hronom, September 18 (TASR) - On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising (SNP), the Pohronie Enlightenment Centre (POS) in Ziar nad Hronom (Banska Bystrica region) is presenting an exhibition that will give the public information about members and activities of an army art group called Front Theatre. The exhibition entitled Following the Footsteps of the Front Theatre is due to be open on Thursday (September 19). The Pohronie Enlightenment Centre reported that the Front Theatre started its activities exactly 80 years ago after the outbreak of the Slovak National Uprising, on September 12, 1944. It presented artistic sketches, musical numbers, one-act plays, poetry, as well as illusionistic performances at the insurgent territory. "The Front Theatre, through its activities, explained the goals of the uprising to the locals and brought distraction and encouragement to the soldiers during the difficult period of the war," said the organisers. The founder and head of the theatre was the first Slovak professional actor, director and teacher Andrej Bagar. "The ten-member collective of artists performed as many as 50 performances directly on the insurgent territory during its short 42-day existence. This was an exceptional phenomenon connected with the history of SNP," stated the organisers. am/mcs
