Simkovicova began her working trip in the USA in New York on September 22, where she attended Mass in a Slovak church in Manhattan. Later, she attended a jazz concert as part of the Oneness Festival, organised by Martin Valihora in cooperation with Slovakia's Consulate General in New York. The minister's working trip continued in Orlando, Florida, with a meeting with another expatriate community of Slovaks. "I was touched by the warm welcome I received in Orlando from Slovaks who have left our homeland gradually since the 1970s," Simkovicova said after the meeting. The minister's work activities continued in the state of Iowa, where another important community of Slovaks lives. She donated €10,000 to the National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library in Cedar Rapids for the acquisition of priest Matus Jankola's collection of books for the library's collection and a book donation of contemporary Slovak literature. In Cedar Rapids, the culture minister joined President Peter Pellegrini's work programme, attending the opening of the travelling exhibition of photographs, The Slovak Epic of Martin Machaj, which was opened by the Slovak head of state. am/mcs
