Snina, October 4 (TASR) - A company called ZVS holding based in Snina (Presov region) ceremonially launched a new line for producing 155-millimetre artillery ammunition on Friday with Defence Minister Robert Kalinak (Smer-SD) and ZVS board of directors chairman Pavol Cahoj in attendance, TASR learnt on the same day. The new line will enable ZVS holding to significantly increase the production of large-calibre ammunition in the years to come. The investment in expanding production amounted to €31.5 million. More than €80 million in total has been invested in ZVS's operations in Snina in recent times. The new plant is equipped with modern technologies and advanced robotic lines. Furthermore, selected parts of production have been automated, and the production premises have been modernised and reconstructed. Thanks to the modern production plant, ZVS holding will create dozens of new qualified jobs in the future. Thanks to the new plant in Snina, the annual production of 155-millimetre artillery ammunition is expected to increase to 360,000 pieces by 2026. "By launching a new production line, we are responding to the ongoing high demand for artillery ammunition of 155-millimetre calibre, and also to the complicated geopolitical situation in general. I'm glad that we've managed to successfully implement investments in production and technological facilities and thus strengthen our position on the large-calibre ammunition market. At the same time, we are contributing to meeting the strategic priorities of the EU in NATO in the field of protection," said Cahoj. Since 2020, the number of employees of ZVS holding in Snina has increased from 75 to 180, and the company plans to more than double its workforce in the future. "I am glad that the Slovak defence industry is dynamically developing. A strong domestic industry contributes not only to our own, but also European security, which is why we want to continue working intensively to support this industry," said the defence minister. ko/df
