Rastislav Stur to Become New Slovak National Theatre Opera Director

Bratislava, October 5 (TASR) - Rastislav Stur is set to become the new director of the Slovak National Theatre (SND) Opera, TASR was told by SND press secretary Izabela Pazitkova on Saturday, adding that Stur will be appointed to the post on October 15 by SND head Zuzana Tapakova. Meanwhile Peter Canecky will become the director of the SND Artistic and Decorative Workshops. "I'm extremely happy that both gentlemen, important artistic personalities, have accepted my offer and are returning to the Slovak National Theatre, where they certainly belong. I believe that thanks to them SND will prosper as a proud and elegant institution and bring people more and more quality artistic experiences," said Tapakova. According to the Slovak National Theatre, Stur is one of Slovakia's outstanding artistic personalities and made his debut at the Slovak National Theatre Opera in 1996. "Since then he has staged dozens of operas for which he has received several important awards," stated Pazitkova, adding that Stur has performed on concert stages in Europe and America, and has also conducted an opera tour in Japan. Canecky is a stage designer who is to return to the post of director of the SND Artistic and Decorative Workshops. His artistic designs are familiar to audiences from many Slovak and foreign theatres, noted Pazitkova. am
