Bratislava, October 7 (TASR) - Retail revenues in fixed prices grew for the eighth consecutive month in August 2024, going up by 0.7 percent year-on-year, the Statistics Office reported on Monday. After seasonal adjustments, retail revenues fell by 1 percent from July, however. Higher revenues than the year before were observed in only four of the nine retail segments. The overall result for the sector was driven most significantly by a more than one-fifth increase in the revenues of entities without outlets (kiosks, e-shops, markets, etc.). However, this segment was partly influenced by a change in the structure and number of companies included in this category. Meanwhile, non-specialised outlets such as hypermarkets and supermarkets, the most significant segment of the retail trade in terms of share, reported a 0.5-percent decline in revenues. Among other segments of domestic trade, only accommodation recorded a y-o-y increase in sales, going up by 3 percent in August. Other segments posted decreases in revenues, namely the sale and repair of motor vehicles (by 1.5 percent), wholesale (4.2 percent) and pubs and restaurants (5.4 percent). After seasonal adjustments, retail revenues in the sale and repair of motor vehicles grew by 7.1 percent from July, while those of accommodation facilities went up by as much as 11.3 percent. Conversely, revenues in wholesale dropped by 0.1 percent, while those in retail fell by 1 percent and those in pubs and restaurants shrank by 1.5 percent. In the first eight months of this year, retail revenues increased by 3.6 percent y-o-y, with those in accommodation rising by 1.5 percent and those in pubs and restaurants up by 0.9 percent. Revenues in the sale and repairs of motor vehicles decreased by 1.2 percent, while those in wholesale dropped by 3.1 percent. ko/df
