KDH Taking Consolidation Impact on Parental Pensions to Constitutional Court

Bratislava, October 18 (TASR) - The opposition Christian Democrats (KDH) want to file a motion to the Constitutional Court to assess the conformity of the consolidation laws, especially in the area of parental pensions and the second pension pillar, with the Slovak Constitution and international conventions, KDH spokeswoman Lenka Kovar told TASR on Friday. "The parental pension rewards parents for bringing up their children and it is unfair that this governing coalition is going to scrap it. We call on the government to consider the long-term interests of citizens and ensure a sustainable and fair pension system. We'll also appeal to the Constitutional Court to consider these legislative changes in accordance with the constitutional and international obligations of Slovakia and thus protect the constitutional rights of our citizens," said KDH leader Milan Majersky. The party pointed out that according to the Constitution, every citizen has the right to decide that part of his/her tax or payment under the pension system will be provided to the person who raised him/her and to whom material security is provided in old age. According to MP Jozef Hajko (KDH), the interference in the parental pension constitutes a direct threat to this right. am/mcs
