Ruzomberok, October 21 (TASR) - The memorial site of partisan Dimitrij Venerovsky was opened in Ruzomberok (Zilina region) last weekend on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising (SNP), TASR was told by town spokesman Vladimir Miskovcik. The event, organised by Ruzomberok town hall in cooperation with the regional committee of the Slovak Union of Anti-Fascist Fighters, was also attended by Venerovsky's 86-year-old son Peter. The cross is located on the place where Venerovsky was shot on October 27, 1944. "Dimitrij Venerovsky fell in battle and sacrificed his life for two homelands. The first he carried deep within him as an eternal memory, as the birthplace and country of his youth. The second homeland as the country that accepted him as its own and opened a new path in his life," Ruzomberok mayor Lubomir Kubna said in his speech, adding that Venerovsky's story is one of thousands of individual stories of all those who fought against the tyranny of fascism. "Each of these known or unknown fighters deserves our admiration and respect," stressed Kuban. am/mcs
