Bratislava, October 27 (TASR) - The biggest problem of the governing coalition is that it hasn't been able to overcome issues caused by the governments that were in power in 2020-2023 in one year, Defence Minister Robert Kalinak (Smer-SD) said on STVR's discussion programme 'Five Minutes to Twelve' on Sunday. "We cannot do without establishing an office to investigate the crimes of the previous regime," said Kalinak. Progressive Slovakia MP Tomas Valasek, also on the show, remarked in this vein that the incumbent government is failing and that it can't blame its predecessors for this. Valasek also told ordinary people to judge for themselves whether they are better off. According to him, they aren't. He also noted that he feels that the government not only doesn't want to improve the situation, but it doesn't know how to do so, either. According to Kalinak, what the government has managed to do in its first year in power is to stop the decline in the standard of living of the public. He also highlighted the reduction in inflation and the growth of salaries. Addressing the issue of the vacant post of House chair, Kalinak claimed that the next chair will be elected when the coalition agrees on a candidate. "There's no agreement at the moment," said Kalinak. Valasek remarked in this vein that he's of the opinion that the post will remain vacant until the end of the electoral term. zel
