Bratislava, October 28 (TASR) - Nine speakers have applied in writing to take part in the debate related to the no-confidence motion in Culture Minister Martina Simkovicova (a Slovak National Party/SNS nominee) that is taking place in Parliament on Monday, including three applying on behalf a caucus.
The minister herself has asked to appear as well.
In line with the Rules of Procedure, MPs who have applied in writing can speak for no more than 20 minutes, while those who apply on behalf of a caucus have up to 30 minutes.
Following those who have applied in writing, MPs can still apply to speak in the debate. Cabinet members, the premier and House chair and vice-chairs can apply to take the floor at any time.
The opposition has criticised Simkovicova for personnel changes at the Slovak National Theatre and Slovak National Gallery. It claims that the minister is dismantling the public media and public funds and threatening the reconstruction of monuments and key cultural institutions. Simkovicova claims that she has the right to carry out her actions and that she's been acting is a lawful manner. The government also disagrees with the minister's dismissal, stating that she meets all the qualifications and professional prerequisites for the post.
