USElection24: Simecka: Trump's Victory Puts Greater Responsibility on Slovakia

Bratislava, November 6 (TASR) - Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election means that Europe and Slovakia will have to take on greater responsibility and do more themselves, stated chair of the opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) party Michal Simecka on Wednesday. "We'll have to be a strong and confident partner and rely more on our own strengths as we face the major security and economic challenges and threats that are coming from Russia and China in particular," he stated. Simecka thinks that Slovakia will have to invest more in its security. The next US leadership will have to be convinced that its alliance with Slovakia is not a burden but an advantage. In Europe, it will be necessary to strengthen alliances between countries within the EU and NATO. The PS leader stated that such a strengthening of relations, in his view, will not be possible with the kind of policies that the current government is pursuing. "We've had one term of president Trump, we're about to have another. It's natural to be concerned about what's to come. However, it's important that we take this as an opportunity to change our country and Europe for the better," remarked Simecka. Republican Party candidate and former US president Donald Trump already has enough votes in the Electoral College to win the presidential election. This was reported by both CNN television and Reuters on Wednesday. tl/df/zel
