MPs Devote End of Session to Resolution on Kiska Tax Case

Bratislava, November 6 (TASR) - At the end of Wednesday's session MPs discussed a coalition-sponsored draft resolution responding to a verdict handed down by Presov Region Court, which found ex-president Andrej Kiska guilty of the crime of tax fraud.
The House is scheduled to meet again on Thursday (November 7) morning.
In the draft resolution, the MPs propose that Parliament should condemn the fraudulent actions of the former president during the electoral campaign leading up to the 2014 presidential election, as well as Kiska's statements accusing the governing coalition of intimidating judges.
The opposition says the purpose of the resolution is to humiliate a political opponent. Leader of the opposition 'Slovakia' party Igor Matovic thinks the verdict for Kiska is correct but considers the resolution to be revenge. Such a proposal doesn't belong in Parliament, he said, describing it as settling an old score with Kiska by Kiska's former opponent in the presidential race and current Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD).
