KDH: Slovakia Mustn't Move From Democracy To Totalitarianism

Bratislava, November 7 (TASR) - In the context of the upcoming 35th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, MPs from the opposition Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) have stated that the fourth government of Robert Fico (Smer-SD) is pulling Slovakia geopolitically toward the East and is abusing political power.
"We want to draw attention to the fact that this country mustn't move from democracy to totalitarianism. We often witness political parties led by Robert Fico, [Voice-SD leader] Matus Sutaj Estok or [SNS head] Andrej Danko really abusing democracy and freedom," said KDH chair Milan Majersky. He's also critical of the fact that the post of House chair is still vacant.
In addition, KDH disapproves of the settlement that the Interior Ministry reached with ex-prime minister of the Czech Republic Andrej Babis in a dispute concerning the protection of his person relating to his unauthorised registration in the files of the erstwhile communist-era secret service the StB. Babis has been described by the Nation's Memory Institute (UPN) as a conscious collaborator with the StB.
"With this settlement, the coalition is once again preventing the truth from being clearly revealed and confirmed. The coalition did not allow the UPN chair to [speak at the session of a House committee]. We're asking whether this is, in fact, a reward for Babis for supporting Fico in the general election and Pellegrini in the presidential election," said MP Marian Caucik.
The movement will commemorate the upcoming 35th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution with a social media campaign.
