SNS: We Met our Commitments Towards All Who Ran on Our Slate

Bratislava, November 7 (TASR) - The coalition Slovak National Party (SNS) has met its commitments towards everyone who ran in the 2023 parliamentary election on its slate and so it condemns the behaviour of MP Rudolf Huliak (Independent), whose actions it sees as an attempt to dismantle the patriotic political forces, SNS spokesperson Zuzana Skopcova declared after a session of the party leadership on Thursday. "The SNS leadership strongly condemns the behaviour of Rudolf Huliak and two lawmakers who acquired the trust of patriotically-inclined voters and ran together (with SNS) in the 2023 parliamentary election," reads the press release sent to TASR by Skopcova. SNS also condemns Huliak's "uncouth public mannerisms and arrogant behaviour that hurts patriotic politics". SNS called on members of the coalition to unite in their support of Robert Fico's (Smer-SD) government. It believes that Huliak is being used by special interest groups to dismantle the patriotic forces and voiced hope that he will "stop attacking SNS because the only ones who can laugh at this entire situation are progressive forces". The lawmaker received criticism from both the opposition but later also representatives of the coalition over his statements that humiliated and dehumanised opposition MP Lucia Plavakova (PS). Huliak chairs the non-parliamentary National Coalition/Independent Candidates party and together with Ivan Sevcik and Pavol Luptak ran for lawmakers seats on the slate of SNS. First they asked SNS to add 'National Coalition' to the name of its caucus and when that didn't happen, the trio subsequently left the caucus while declaring their support for the coalition. Last week, the lawmakers around Huliak announced that they wouldn't participate in the parliamentary session and the coalition found itself unable to pass laws temporarily as a result. mf/mcs
