Bratislava, November 7 (TASR) - Parliament passed a resolution on Thursday that condemns former president Andrej Kiska's (2014-19) actions in his fraud tax case, in response to a recent guilty verdict handed down to Kiska by the Presov Regional Court.
"Parliament emphatically condemns the fraudulent conduct of former president Andrej Kiska, who willfully violated Slovak tax laws and condemns in particular his fraudulent activities during the 2014 presidential election campaign, when former president Andrej Kiska deceived the citizens of Slovakia and his rival candidates for the president and thus dishonoured the institution of the Slovak presidency," reads the approved resolution.
In addition, the lawmakers condemned Kiska's statements about the government intimidating judges and averred that such claims might undermine democratic principles of the rule of law and the Slovak Constitution.
On October 31, Kiska was given a suspended sentence of one year with a two-year probation by the Presov Regional Court over a tax fraud.
The case revolves around Kiska's 2013-14 presidential campaign costs, which Kiska put on the books of his company KTAG. The firm subsequently filed an illicit claim for a VAT refund, thus causing the state financial damages of about €155,000. Kiska denies guilt and announced he will file a special motion with the Supreme Court.
