Bratislava, November 10 (TASR) - Saturday's (November 9) statements made by Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) prove that he Fico has become divorced from the values of freedom, democracy and civil rights brought on by the 1989 Velvet Revolution, 'For the People' chair Veronika Remisova (Slovakia-For the People-KU) declared in response to Fico's statements that the political system in Slovakia is ripe for a change. "His words about the need to make an intervention regarding the political system and increase the threshold for political parties [to make it to Parliament] are dangerous and destructive for the future of our country. Fico is stating openly today that we wants to dismantle the political competition, restrict freedom and create conditions to enable autocrats like him to control Slovakia without allowing any criticism or political competition," thinks Remisova. The MP noted that if such changes were pursued, the Prime Minister would acquire constitutional majority in Parliament and nothing would prevent him from turning Slovakia into another Belarus. mf
