KDH Calls on Premier Fico to Start Carrying Out his Constitutional Duties

Bratislava, November 10 (TASR) - Opposition's Christian Democrats (KDH) urged Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) and the governing coalition to start carrying out their constitutional duties, including their obligation to fill the vacant posts of the House chair and a Constitutional Court judge.
KDH responded this way to Robert Fico's Saturday (November 9) statement, according to which Fico doesn't find the election of the House chair a priority.
"Not even the Prime Minister can stand above the Constitution of the Slovak Republic. He has no right to disrespect it or claim that this is not a priority to him," claimed KDH spokesperson Lenka Kovar.
According to KDH, Robert Fico is responsible for comprehensive deterioration of the state. With his Smer-SD party, Fico has been taking part in the state governance for the fourth election cycle and led Slovakia into its current decline. The Christian Democrats underline that Fico bears primary responsibility over the moral decline of the political elites as well as economic deterioration, which he exacerbated with his consolidation measures. "Blaming the election quorum for this is childish," said KDH, adding that accusing the opposition of anti-state activities crosses all red lines and is a throwback to the totalitarian era.
KDH reiterated that Slovakia would benefit from efficient governance, including the decentralisation and the shifting of more powers to local and regional authorities. The party is prepared to discuss this constructively with all political parties and work with them on long-term visions for the development of Slovakia, but all of that is contingent on showing respect to the legacy of the 1989 Velvet Revolution values and the Slovak Constitution.
