ODS and DS Merge to Form 'DS-ODS' Party

Bratislava, November 11 (TASR) - The extra-parliamentary Slovak Civic Democrats (ODS) and the Democratic Party (DS) have merged into a single party that will operate under the abbreviation 'DS-ODS', Jaroslav Peto, the party's secretary, reported on Monday. "DS-ODS aims to stand by every citizen and promote the values of justice, civic equality and a responsible approach to governance," stated the party's vice-chair Ladislav Nagy. The party wants to continue building "a strong and stable alternative for Slovakia" with an emphasis on open dialogue and specific solutions for the people of all regions. The merger of the parties was described by their representatives as the result of long-term efforts to create a united, strong political alternative that will actively serve the public interest and bring positive changes to public life. tl/df/zel
