Kiska to Turn to Court over Termination of Life-long Salary Payments

Bratislava, November 14 (TASR) - Ex-president Andrej Kiska will turn to the courts over termination of life-long salary payments to him. The court should decide whether or not he is eligible for a life-long salary, Kiska has posted on a social network, adding that this is the matter of principle for him. "If Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) and President Peter Pellegrini, with a monthly salary of over €12,000 are taking revenge on me for defeating Fico in the presidential election by not paying some third of their monthly salary to me, they are only confirming that they are interested in nothing but scaring off all those who touch on their comfortable lives," stated Kiska. He added that he doesn't live off this life-long salary and doesn't use the state limousine he is entitled for, either. The President's Office announced earlier on Thursday that it has terminated life-long salary payments to ex-president Kiska as of November. It has done so based on new legislation which stipulates that former heads of state forfeit their claim to such payments if found guilty of willful crimes. In October, Presov Regional Court handed down to Kiska a suspended sentence of one year with two years of probation for tax fraud. ko/mcs
