Bratislava, November 17 (TASR) - The Bratislava Castle will be lit up between 7 p.m. and midnight on Sunday to commemorate November 17, 1989.
"Projections marking the 35th anniversary of the protest march of Slovak students and the Velvet Revolution will be screened at the Bratislava Castle on Sunday," the Parliament Office's communication department has informed TASR.
The brutal crackdown by security forces on a permitted demonstration in Prague on November 17, 1989, triggered the events that led to the definitive collapse of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia. These events are also referred to as the Velvet Revolution. In Slovakia, since 2001, November 17 has also been celebrated as the Fight for Freedom and Democracy Day.
