Sutaj Estok: Democracy and Freedom Should Not Be Empty Political Phrases

Bratislava, November 17 (TASR) - Democracy, freedom of speech and freedom of opinion should not be just political phrases, said Matus Sutaj Estok, leader of the governing Voice-SD party, on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution on Sunday.
He wants Slovakia to become a country where politicians do not attack democracy, but protect it. "We are living at a time when many politicians use words such as democracy, freedom of speech, and freedom of opinion. However, in reality, only a few of them understand what these words truly mean. People are fed up with empty talk about democracy and freedom when politicians suppress opposing views, shut down the media, and turn the public into a herd for which only a long whip is used," stated Sutaj Estok.
In this context, the Voice-SD leader criticised the previous governments of Igor Matovic, Eduard Heger and Ludovit Odor. He thinks that democracy is actually protected by the people. "I wish for democracy to have enough politicians who will be the eyes, ears and voices of their voters. Only then will it remain meaningful, attractive and useful in the years to come," he added.
