Bratislava, November 18 (TASR) - The police have found almost €55,000 in cash during a raid of the home of a police officer who had been caught accepting a bribe of €5,000, TASR learnt from spokesperson of the Internal Affairs Inspectorate (UIS) Andrea Dobiasova on Monday. The investigation also revealed several instances of corrupt behavior on part of the police officer, as he also received €4,000 and a large amount of alcohol. He was asking for bribes from drivers in exchange of making penalties for traffic violations more lenient. "Based on the long-term investigation of Col. M.K. [name abbreviated due to legal reasons], a UIS investigator has pressed charges not only in the case in which the defendant was caught in the act of accepting a bribe, but also three other cases involving crimes of the misuse of a public official's powers and bribery," said the spokesperson. The defendant will be prosecuted at large and under supervision. If found guilty, he could face a sentence of four to ten years in prison. mf/df
